Ryūka: poetry heard in song and read in collections
Ryūka belongs to the poetry and singing traditions of the Ryūkyūs. A common short form uses an eight–eight–eight–six sound pattern. Poems can be sung to the sanshin, a three-stringed instrument, or read in written collections.
